Included among the many reasons to visit the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota is the opportunity to pursue the elusive Brook and Lake Trout, the only 2 native trout species in Minnesota. Now, if you're talking to any fly fisherman elitist, they will proudly tell you that Minnesota does not have any native trout species and that a Brook or Lake Trout is in fact a salmonoid, or a Char, and not a trout. The elites are correct. 

The Brook Trout, otherwise known as the Salvelinus Fontinalis, which translates to "little salmon, living in springs" is a personal favorite species of our Founder. He may or may not have this colorful fish tattooed on his arm and as the screensaver on his phone. Obsessed much, Michael?
